At the amazing age of 103, Hollywood and the world lost one of its most legendary actors and stars of the sliver, Kirk Douglas early last month.
Following the publication of his Will, it has now emerged that Kirk bequeathed his entire fortune to charity, through the Douglas Foundation – which he founded with his wife Anne. According to the charities website; “The Douglas Foundation’s principal goal is to help those who cannot otherwise help themselves. Its primary focus is improving the education and health, fostering the well-being, and most importantly developing new opportunities for the children who hold our future in their hands. Recognising the crisis in health care today, the Douglas Foundation also lends its support to medical research, equipment, and programs within the health system that strive to enhance the quality of care in local communities.”
So far, $50m of his $61m legacy has been distributed, with beneficiaries including: St Lawrence University, Westwood’s Sinai Temple, Culver City’s Kirk Doulas Theatre and a Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. It has not yet been reported how or where the final $11m will be shared out to good causes. However, it appears that his son and equally as well know Hollywood actor and star, Michael Douglas, along with Michael’s wife and renowned actor Catherine Zeta Jones, have not received anything in the Will. Michael is reported to have amassed his own fortune of over $300m and so is probably not too concerned about his father’s generous ‘give away’!
