The death in September this year of the American rapper, Mac Miller from a suspected drug overdose at the age of 26, has highlighted the fact that he was actually in a minority when it comes to making a Will. Mac made his Will at the age of 21, naming his parents and brother as the main beneficiaries to his estate, estimated to be a £6.9 million fortune, including all properties, money and possessions.
Recent research shows that only 24% of adults under 35 have a valid Will, compared with 75% of adults over 55. Mac Miller’s tragic death highlights the need for more young adults to have a Will put in place, ensuring their assets are protected for their loved ones to enjoy, as well as their own wishes with regards to their Estate and their Funeral Plans documented and heard. A valid Will that clearly outlines your wishes can offer clarity, avoid family disputes and protect your Estate from excessive legal and tax costs.
